Location
I took this photo in a stretch of area called simply "the beyond" on the Hawaiian island of Maui. The road through "the beyond" is not much of a road, and there are no villages or places to stop for a long stretch. This photo was taken on a hillside there.Time
This was taken in the summer time at sunset. I used to take my children to visit my father in Maui. He drove us around the Road to Hana, and the through "the beyond." By the time we got to "the beyond," the sun was beginning to set through the dark clouds.Lighting
The lighting for this photo was natural....the sun did the work for me, and the clouds filtered out the harshness to soften the light on the water.Equipment
Nikon D5300Inspiration
I stopped on the side of the "road" when I saw the light pouring through the clouds. Since we were going through an uninhabited area, every vista seemed to offer a gift of something beautiful that no one else got to see. I wanted to capture the view--like a secret--to share. The light is always shifting, particularly with clouds, so I stood there for a while taking photos.Editing
Only lightening shadowsIn my camera bag
Usually an extra portrait lens, lens wipes, and protector.Feedback
