Behind The Lens

Location

'Pont Pen-y-benglog' along the A5 in North Wales. The old bridge has now gone and been renewed.

Time

Taken about 30 - 40 minutes before sunset

Lighting

Taken in September, sun setting already hidden from camera by mountains

Equipment

Fuji Finepix S3Pro, Nikon 18-105mm VR DG Kit lens, No flash, Vintage tripod...

Inspiration

I was just captured by the light as the sun was going down and the clear air following a shower earlier, desperate to find a good image composition I took to the path quickly finding a fantastic well weathered wooden bridge, I knew that had to be the subject for the image so I had a quick scout for the best angle. This image inspired me to take my hobby forward.

Editing

No post processing, but in camera settings were applied for colour, tone and sharpness.

In my camera bag

I now have a Nikon D800 as my main camera with a Nikon D7000 as backup, an array of lenses but a couple of favorites... Nikon 80-400mm f4.5 VR Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro DG HSM VR Nikon 35mm f1.8 G Sigma 28-105mm f2.8 - f4 Sigma 12-24mm f4.5 - f5.6 DG HSM Sigma 10-20mm Nikon Speedlight SB-25 Flash Sigma EF-610 Flash Manfrotto tripod video head Vangaurd pro tripod and ball head Various Lee filters

Feedback

Plan to have plenty of time on location, visit the site prior if you can, if not use google earth to check out direction of sunrise and sunset also any images already taken from location. Arrive early, take your time planning where your going to take your shots from, what equipment you need at each point, the light changes so fast you DON'T want to miss out. Have a backup camera set-up and ready to go. After shoot sit back and enjoy the moment.
