Behind The Lens

Location

Taken at the Wrangle Country Show, Lincolnshire.

Time

Taken around Mid-day

Lighting

Good light allowing good exposure freezing the moment and allowing enough time to capture wheel movement.

Equipment

Nikon D800 and a Nikon 80-400VR f/6, ISO 250, @1/1250 Handheld

Inspiration

A great team display capturing some really big jumps with good mid flight posses.

Editing

Minor processing, exposure and saturation

In my camera bag

I always go fully equipped with a Tamrac Expedition backpack containing... Nikon D800 Sigma 150-600mm contemporary Nikon 80-400mm VR Sigma 12-24mm Sigma 105mm VR Sigma 24-105mm Sometimes swap a few items... Nikon D70 IR Converted Nikon D7000 Sigma 10-20mm Lee Grad Filters Haida ND Filters Vanguard Tripod

Feedback

With fast moving objects I like to handhold rather than tripod and or gimbal, especially at airshows for more flexibility. When shooting moving objects try to balance exposure to allow capture of movement but also sharp areas of interest (good example aircraft with prop blur, lower shutter speed and good panning skill), also allow for space for the object to travel in the frame (example if photographing a motorbike travelling from left to right leave far more space in the right of your image, try and use the thirds rule and get the bike on the left third).
