Location
Keukenhof, Lisse, The Netherlands.Time
About 3 PM on a bright and sunny day in May when tulips were in full bloom.Lighting
It was late afternoon and Keukenhof was teeming with tourists. The gardens are beautifully landscaped with little hillocks, waterbodies and tall trees. This particular flower bed was on a terrace slightly up a hillock. I was drawn to the tulips' assorted mix of colours. Further away, just beyond, up on the terrace and in the front, there was shade from the tall trees on the slope. The light was only on the blooms and beyond it was cool green shade. It was soothing and inviting and not crowded. I actually wanted a photo of myself with the flowers which I did but, not before I had taken one of just the flowers. Had I been aware of composition, I would have attempted to take it from a different perspective. But, in it's naturalness, spontaneity without any retouching, it is the most popular photo in my gallery.Equipment
Only a point and shoot camera, Nikon Coolpix S220.Inspiration
The heavenly blossoms. It was a breathtaking vista of tulips of every imaginable hue, everywhere I looked. I just couldn't have enough of them! I couldn't stop clicking. This was taken a long time ago. I hadn't developed photography as a serious hobby at that time, so wasn't much conscious about composition or light. I took the pictures to preserve the memories of the visit.Editing
None at all because I wasn't into serious photography and was quite unaware of any post-processing during those years. In my camera bag
I don't use the camera that I took this picture with any longer. Now, my constant companion is Canon PowerShot SX 400IS that I carry with me all the time, everywhere. Along with it, depending where I am travelling, I carry my new Canon EOS 2D II 24.1 MP DSLR with either of the lenses, EF-S 18-55 mm is STM lens, EF-S 55-250mm is STM lens, a Tamron A17E AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD macro telephoto and a Canon EF-S 10-18 mm f/4-5.6 is STM zoom lens. Sometimes I carry all of them. I don't have a tripod yet. I use supports in nature that I can find such as a tree trunk, a fence or a rock to hold my camera steady.Feedback
I am, myself still very much learning but, I have come a long way since I took this photo, from the time I first posted in Viewbug. Viewbug has been instrumental in teaching, motivating and schooling me in more ways than I can count. This photograph was taken on a vacation in a different country than my native one, and the gardens were landscaped appealingly so there were plenty of opportunities to click in various ways. However, at that time, since I wasn't really taking pictures as a hobby, rather for memories, I didn't pay much attention to any detailing or composition. I simply photographed what appealed to my eye and my senses. Now, though, I am very careful about the composition as best as the situation warrants. I pay a lot of attention to the light since it can be very bright in my tropical country, there can be hard shadows, other obstructions which I am careful about. Flowers are stationary subjects, therefore, it's easy but I try to observe the other photographers' technique in capturing flowers in Viewbug and try and apply a unique way in which I take mine.
