Behind The Lens
Location
I took this shot in my maternal grandpa's basement, in the countryside of Rondinha, a very small city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.Time
I can't remember what time it was exactly, but it was between breakfast and lunch. After all, we headed to my grandpa's basement to have lunch.Lighting
I got a beautiful soft and diffused light because we were close to the basement's large door and the sun was reflecting on the grass outside and at the pavement, creating this delicate light effect coming from the right.Equipment
For this shot, I used a Canon T5i camera and a 50mm f/1.8 lens, only.Inspiration
Isn't this little kitty a fluffy thing? I was driven to make this photo because kittens are always so cute! Besides, he/she looks so fragile and lovable that I couldn't resist. To add a sense of care and tenderness, I asked my cousin to hold it on her hands, what also added color and perspective to the shot.Editing
I did a slight post-processing using Lightroom to increase the colors and contrast. I also lit up the kitten's face a little bit to decrease the shadows at the left side.In my camera bag
On my bag I normally carry my Canon T5i, two batteries, two memory cards and some lenses. I have four lenses, two form Canon and two from Sigma, for different purposes, but I try to carry only one or two, depending on what I'm going to shoot. If I don't know what I'm going to photograph or if I don't wanna take risks, I end up by carring all of the four. Beside that, some polarizer and UV filters. Depending on the subject, I carry my tripod as well. The only thing that I can't leave out of my bag is determination.Feedback
Photograph animals can be harsh, but to me is always thrilling. Mostly of the time, you can't control them, so you have to be patient and quick at the trigger. Having somebody to help you is a very good thing, and having my cousin to hold the kitty helped not only to create a delicate shot, but to control the kitty so I could have more time to compose the shot and control the focus. Remember that it is crucial to respect and take care of the animal.
