Morning Glory pool is one of the most beautiful features in Yellowstone National Park. It is at the far East end of the Old Faithful boardwalk and trail loops.Time
After hiking behind Old Faithful. We ventured out to gaze upon this spectacular hot pool. This picture was taken mid day.Lighting
Given the position of the sun, I chose a high vantage point on a nearby bench with the intent of of maximizing the color capture of this beautiful pool. A downward look allowed me to offset the challenges of the mid-day sun and allow the image to capture the feeling of depth of the pool.Equipment
This image was shot with a Nikon D7100 camera using a Nikkor 18-140mm, f/3.5-5.6 lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I wanted to share the beauty of Morning Glory pool and educate viewers of this image about the stress being placed by humans on this precious and fragile pool, as well as other unique features of our nation's oldest national park. Over many years, the colors of this pool have faded due to people throwing objects into the pool, which have clogged its vent and cooled the waters. The brilliance of the colors in this pool have diminished over the years as a direct result of pollution.Editing
The original capture was brilliantly colored and I used some post processing to sharpen the image and slightly enhanced its color. In my camera bag
I always pack my Nikon D7100. My go to lens is my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. I also now carry a Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 lens.Feedback
Yellowstone National Park has so many beautiful features. I recommend spending a few days in the park to take advantage of early morning and evening light. The light in Yellowstone is magificent do to its high elevation and low pollution. Animals are more visible in the early and late hours of the day. Please be curious and pull safely off the road before leaving your vehicle to prevent traffic problems.
