While hiking in Chautauqua Park in Boulder, CO. I came across a patch of coneflowers. Got up close and personal to get this shot. I particularly like the blurred mirror effect from the coneflower in behind.

This photo was taken while I was hiking in Chautauqua Park in Boulder. Colorado. I saw a patch of these coneflowers and couldn't resist trying out my new Macro Lens.Time
I started my hike around nine o'clock in the morning which was a perfect time to hike as it had not gotten too hot yet. This picture was take in August under a perfect blue, sunshine filled Colorado sky.Lighting
If you have ever been to Colorado then you know the sun shines all the time here which makes taking photographs in the middle of the day challenging. However there is nothing more spectacular than a Colorado sunrise or sunset. This particular picture was taken around 9am so the natural sunlight provided the perfect lighting during my hike.Equipment
I shot this with my Canon SL1 and a Canon 100mm Macro Lens. No tripod or flash was needed, just held my breath and hoped my hand would be steady enough.Inspiration
More than just this photo, I was inspired to take up photography because of an injury that left me unable to play the sport I love, hockey. In order to push myself to get up and walk around I bought a camera and started walking around Colorado to take pictures. From the first snap I was hooked and have never looked back. Macro photography is my favorite because in this busy, rushed world we live in, it is easy to overlook some of the most beautiful things. I like to now stop and see this beauty close up through my camera.Editing
I did very minor adjustments to the saturation levels in order to bring out the colors and sharpened the photo just a little to see the points on the end of the flower. In my camera bag
My camera bag has evolved over the years but as of late I normally carry the following equipment with me when I go to shoot. Canon EOS 5DS R Body, Canon EF 100mm IS USM Lens, Canon EF 24-105mm IS USM Lens, Canon EF 85mm USM Lens, Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM Lens and the Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite Flash.Feedback
When shooting subject up close it is important to have patience. Wait for the wind to slow down or stop, wait for your hand to steady, hold your breath to limit your body movement. Using a monopod can also assist with keeping steady and is great for shooting flowers. The last piece of advice I have is this, shoot something you love; nature, people, cityscapes, because some of the greatest pictures come from shooting things that you are passionate about.
