Gorgeous capture! Where do you live to capture these beautiful creatures?! I've only seen one once but to slow to get a camera. :-)

I was sitting in my home office in Salem New Hampshire, looking out my window, when a pair of male Eastern Bluebirds landed on a perch in front me. I fired off 6 quick shots. This was the last one. Yes, this photo was actually taken thru a window.Time
This shot was taken on January 29th at around 2:30 in the afternoon. It was a cold day and the perch was in the warm afternoon sun. A perfect place for the birds to warm up.Lighting
It was a crisp, clear, cold winter day in New England and the perch was in the warm afternoon sun. A perfect place for the birds to warm up, and nice warm colors to light up the subjects.Equipment
In January of 2015 I purchase my first DSLR (Nikon D7100) along with a telephoto lens (Tamron 150-600). This photo was taken about two weeks later. It was handheld, no tripod.Inspiration
I was still learning the ins and outs of using my new equipment. I have a few bird feeders in the backyard to attract birds. When these two birds landed in front of me, I knew it was a great opportunity to test out the camera and my capabilities.Editing
Yes, this photo was cropped and I did a small amount of lighting adjustments in Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.In my camera bag

I think the trick to this shot was the perch. I found an interesting stick in the woods. I really liked it's weathered look. I took it home and set it up outside my window in close proximity to the bird feeders. I put it where I knew the afternoon sun shines and also where I can see it clearly without obstruction. I did my best to keep my window clean, but honestly it's pretty dirty most of the time and it doesn't effect the picture quality much. Best advice, nice perch, clean window, good food in the feeders and patience.
