Location
This photo was created in my studio, just outside of Philadelphia PA.Time
It was in the afternoon.Lighting
I used a stripbox on my main light and set it to the side and slightly behind my subject to give her profile (and especially baby bump) an angelic glow. I also added a second fill light to separate her from the background.Equipment
To create this image I used my Nikon D7000 camera, my Nikkor fixed 85mm f1.8 lens, two Paul C Buff Alien Bee lights (one 800- main, one 400- fill/separation), two stripboxes over the lights, and a fan to blow the dress and add movement to the image.Inspiration
I wanted to showcase the miracle and beauty of creating new life.Editing
The only real post processing I did was smooth out her skin, I wanted to keep the image as natural as possible, plus she's a beautiful woman and had a motherly glow which doesn't require a lot of work at all.In my camera bag
In my camera bag you'll find a Nikon D7000 with a battery grip attached, a Nikkor zoom 55-200mm f/4-5.6 lens and a kit lens 18-105mm (just in case I need it), but my Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 lens is my baby and that's the one I mostly use while shooting. I also take a Nikon SB-900 AF Speedlight Flash for emergencies or if I have limited space, but if I'm going on location and I can manage I love taking my hot pink Alienbees with a fully charged vagabond to really light up my subject!Feedback
My advice for creating an image similar to this is to put a stripbox on your main light and angle it to the side and slightly behind your subject (look for the beautiful Rembrandt light pattern on the subject's face, and put a second and dimmer light with stripbox behind your subject to some fill. Just remember to always find a willing and comfortable model, be confident, and have fun!
