I have chosen two images of this Canna Lily to illustrate two different shooting modes .. both images were shot in the middle of the day in bright sunlight . this was shot with just the natural sunlight .. f 5.6, ISO 100, 1-800 sec .... the rapid shutter speed controlled the strong sunlight but still some backlighting .. while the shallow DOF gave some background blur ..

Good explanation Karen....scares the daylights out of me ....think I'll stick with auto and tart up with photoshop!!!

This would probably have been my choice of settings but quite like the other one which appears to give more depth to the colour. Great explanation between the two images. :) Mary
