Early morning.Lighting
When I found the elk in that light, I got really excited. The dark background, the side-lighting on the antlers, and of course, the visible breath made this one of my best elk shots ever.Equipment

I lightened the shadows on the head and brightened the "steam" a little to make it more visible. In my camera bag
These days I'm using a Sony A77II, a backup Sony A77, Sony 70-400G, Tamron 150-600, Sony 18-250, and a Tokina 100 macro.Feedback
As with most wildlife photography, you should be in the field early and late. This shot wouldn't have been possible an hour later. Not to say good photography can't be done all day, but those golden hours can be magical.
