Location
In a small workshop in Toledo, Spain a fort town on a hill- known for it's Sword's and age old craftsmanship in weapons generally. Excalibur was made here and the film Conan the Barbarian's weapons were sourced from here too.Time
It was just a around 11.30 when a gentlemen came up to our group and mentioned the craftsman working in his studio. He only works with the public watching two days a week and happen chance i was very lucky to get to see him at work this close !.Lighting
Looked at the light he was working with and decided that with the natural daylight and his angle lamp plus the D750 has amazing light capture i had a feeling i would be getting a very good exposure.Equipment
Nikon D750 with a Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 Lens handheldInspiration
I appreciated that this man was at his work for 4 hours constantly placing 18 carat gold thread into this broach It takes him a lot of time to make the jewellery and a plate he told me takes weeks to make. It was a back street and footfall was low for the summer so i guess he was happy for me to get some close up's of his work.Editing
No processing at all -just cropped a little but left as it was taken. In my camera bag
Just the kit mentioned before i like to move quickly and get about without a lot of baggage -especially when its 40 degrees c !!Feedback
Just to realise where you are, respect people's workspace as your own and think what it takes to do that job your capturing and try to convey that to the viewer of the image.(My father was a watchmaker and i used to watch him working and was amazed this man did not wear glasses either -for such intricate work i would expect a magnifying glass !!
