I like the angle you captured this shot at...a bit dizzying, and it works...really great job...welcome to Viewbug :)...

Thanks everyone, I'm pretty new to the site, and I just got back from a long road trip. Pretty cool to see the response this one has gotten, I appreciate it.

Location
I took this in Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah while hiking in the "Wall Street" section of the park. I was still pretty new to taking photos and thought that it would make for a cool shot looking straight up and out of the canyon.Time
This was taken right around noon, the sun was directly behind a cloud when I took this, otherwise I don't think I could have captured it without fully overexposing the shot. Not sure why this photo was chosen for the Fall 2020 award as it was taken in June of 2015, but I don’t make the rules.Lighting
I wasn't thinking about lighting at the time, I had no idea what I was doing while taking photos. I think I was lucky in the sense that the sun was behind a cloud, which is one of the reasons why the upper right side is overexposed. Looking back now, I would have likely had my ND filter on to reduce the exposure.Equipment
This was using my first camera, an Olympus Evolt E-500, and using the stock 14-45mm lens. No tripod was used, no filters, no flash.Inspiration
I really just thought that it would be kind of a different perspective when I shot it, not really thinking about much else to be honest. This was taken back in 2008, so Instagram wasn't really on my radar, I really didn't use photo sites all that much, and I was rarely on Facebook. I had little to no inspiration to take this aside from my own intuition. Now I have seen this general angle shot several times on Instagram and the like, and I am glad I took it when I did knowing that it was of my own thought and not because of someone else's.Editing
I did a little bit of post-processing, really it was an effort to reduce the exposure, but that was about it. I was still pretty new to editing of any kind, and I really tried to keep it as simple as possible to avoid overdoing things. In my camera bag
I have since sold my Olympus and purchased a Sony a7II. I have 4 lenses that are in the bag, 3 are Rokinon (12mm f/2.8 fisheye, 20mm f/1.8 wide angle, and 50mm f/1.4) and the 4th is the kit Sony 24-70mm which is rarely used. The 20mm and 50mm are the same thread size so it’s nice to have one filter for two lenses, less to have to keep track of, the fisheye is still new to me, so I haven’t quite figured out a legitimate use for it.Feedback
My advice now is to pick the right lighting, use the correct filter if lighting is an issue, and probably use a tripod to improve clarity. Other than that, shoot what makes you happy. Bryce Canyon is an amazingly picturesque park, and I think it is hard not to find something worth taking a photo of.
