Cathode Luminescence is one of (if not the only) the best ways to visually see internal growth structures of certain minerals. This is a great way to see hydrothermal alteration, as it is clearly visible in this quartz crystal. This is looking down the c-axis and shows normal crystal growth at the center and hydrothermal alteration around the outer third. Shot using the SEM (scanning electron microscopy) at work, and put together with the in house stitching program with 6 images at 40x magnification each. 1 um = .001 mm
