OUTSTANDING Photo! Not just the subject matter, but the composition, the texture, you really have an artistic eye, a natural skill for helping us to see what you see with your work! Job well done!

Late afternoonLighting
The sun was going down and i wanted a soft light so to make sure there would be no shadows or bright light i had my son stand under a tree in what shade the day still had left.Equipment
Canon 60D, Sigma lensInspiration
I was actually taking photos of plants when i saw my son running around having a blast and getting sweaty. On a wim i asked him to let me take a few photos. he is 4 so naturally he doesn't stay still long and is a master of expressions. I just kept snapping till i felt i had a good shot. I was very excited i managed to capture such a great emotion.Editing
I initially liked this in color so i edited it in color first. But i decided that black and white would bring out the emotion in his eyes more and make the image overall more dramatic so i did a low key edit and converted to black and white. I touched up here and there. A bit of extra clarity in the eyes and a bit of airbrushing. I didn't touch his hair, i liked the visual interest of the messy texture. In my camera bag
Canon 60D, 2 sigma lenses, a couple SD cards and extra batteries. A lens cloth. some times a reflector/diffuser.Feedback
With children you have to be patient and sometimes they just want to do their thing. Personally i wait till i get a shot that is authentically natural and it doesn't have to be a smile either, if so great, but some of the greatest child expressions are just a particular look in their eyes. Eyes are MOST important! Get a good focus on those eyes and you got to be ready to capture those great expressions because they speak volumes. With this capture i love the innocence, wonder, and emotion. I want it to draw the viewer in.
