Location
I took this photo on the Main Street of Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico during the retirement ceremony for the F-117A in April 2008. This photograph was one of my many taken during my early years with a basic 35mm Casio Camera.Time
This was an extremely busy day, as I was in charge of the overall security for the retirement ceremony of the F117As, so I was literally running from one location to another ensuring personnel were in the right place. Being able to get into place to take this photograph was extremely difficult, but well worth the rushing around to get into place for the shot during the mid afternoon.Lighting
NoneEquipment
I used a basic 35mm Casio Camera, utilizing my elbows as a bipod on the hood of a truck to stabilize myself during the photo.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photo due to the history being made and to also document the end of the air frame I had protected for over nine years of my military career. This day reminded me of where I came from and what I had accomplished from the first days in the Air Force, the ability to go from standing around as a security guard to running the security detail for this beautiful aircraft.Editing
NoneIn my camera bag
Back when I took this photo, I only carried around my 35mm Casio Camera in the cargo pocket of my uniform. The ability to carry a camera bag was beyond anything I was thinking about at the time. All I knew was I enjoyed taking photographs, so a pocket in my clothing was all I needed. Today eight years latter, I carry a Nikon D5000, with a basic len 18mm to 85mm and a 100mm lens and of course a simple tripod from Walmart. I have learned it isn't always about the equipment, but the love of photographing and documenting history.Feedback
This type of photograph is all about timing and patients. Looking for a position prior to the time to take the shot is also extremely important, by being in place prior to the time of the actual shot enabled me to find away to stabilize myself and the camera. But in the end it came down to just the ability of waiting for that perfect shot.
