Behind The Lens

Location

Queenstown, New Zealand

Time

Evening

Lighting

Natural light, just before the sunset

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon EOS 500D with a Canon 18-135mm lens, f3.6 No tripod, shutter speed set up pretty fast to capture the waves

Inspiration

I was on my way back from a good hike, up in the New Zealand's Alpes. The night was coming soon. I saw this kayak and I had to run so fast to be able to shoot it throughout the trees, with the lake and the mountains in the background I've been shooting all day long from everywhere on the mountain but the only pic I decided to keep and share was this one, the unexpected one.

Editing

I used Adobe Lightroom for my post processing. I wanted to edit the sky a little bit, to make the picture and the clouds more like I could see it in real life.

In my camera bag

I always have my 650D Canon, with a Tamron 18-270mm, ND filter for my long exposures, and my tripod. A Samyang 8mm also, pretty good fish eye I confess ! And always a powerful light for my night pics' focus

Feedback

New Zealand has hit amazing and stunning landscapes and waterscape. So I always had to bring my camera even to go to the supermarket ! You have to pay attention to the sky which is for me the most important thing. Then, in this case, the detail that does everything on that picture is the tiny waves made by the kayak, so shutter speed has to be quick, and iso low (because of my "getting old" camera)
