Not my intended target for the day but a welcome surprise in a less than fruitful attempt to capture Eagles hunting. Shot handheld with a rented Tamron 200-500mm lens. The effective focal length on the 1.5 crop factor D300S was 660mm.

Note: To get proper exposure of a subject like this against a dark background, switch your camera to either "Center" or "Spot" metering. This will avoid overexposure and blowing out all of the highlights.

Lovely shot. You couldn't do better in lighting your subject in that warm glow, and this extends to the water below the egret. I'm curious about your experience with the aesthetic quality of bokeh in your rented Tamron zoom. I have a Tamron 150-600 and am rarely pleased with the look of the background blur.

Thank you for the kind words! I too was rarely pleased by the bokeh of the 200-500. I found it to be kind of harsh, lacking the softness produced by the 200-400 Nikon.

Thanks Doug! From the reviews I've read the 150-600 is a vast improvement to the 200-500, good luck!
