This was taken in NYC from the Crown Plaza on broadway.Time
Around 10p when I usually get back to my room after work.Lighting
One of the beauties of shooting in midtown is the lighting is always right. The city is always energized and never seems to change moods or die down.Equipment
For this series I used the new Canon 5Ds and a Carl Zeiss 15mm lens. In the hi-rez version of this image you can see details inside almost every window in the pic. The 50MP sensor on the 5Ds is definitely worth the hype.Inspiration
The love of photography and the appeal of the Times Square colors. NYC is one of the most photogenic places in the world. I always take my equipment when I'm up there.Editing
I do like to take shots in HDR mode. This gives me more flexibility in expressing what I want in an image. My main processing tool is Lightroom with the occasional touch of photoshopIn my camera bag
My main equipment has been 5D MarkIII, 5DsR, 17mm Tilt Shift, 24mm Tilt Shift, Canon 16-35mm, 24-105mm, 70-200mm II. Some ND filters.Feedback
Would not recommend this shot. At least not from the Crown Plaza in Times Square. Windows in the rooms only open about 4 inches wide. Had to detach lens from camera just to get it on the ledge. Then had to attached tripod to camera with only my fingers sticking out. Tripod had to be balanced solid on the inside glass while camera was suspended out the window. Was scary but got the result I was looking for.
