Location
This photo was taken atop Mount Fitzroy, in Patagonia, Argentina. The photo depicts the famous Laguna De Los Tres (The Lake of the Three) which is names after the prominent trio of mountian peaksTime
The timing of this photo was the hardest part. To capture a mirror image of the peaks I needed to "beat the weather" which would have disturbed the stillness of the lake. I remember struggling out of my tent in the middle of the night to hike the final ascent up Mount Fitzroy before sunrise.Lighting
Whilst I arrived at the top of Mount Fitzroy to see the sun touch the mountain top, the best photos were captured when the lake was fully illuminated.Equipment
This was shot on an Olympus E-M1 with a 12-40mm f2.8 PRO lens. No tripod was required.Inspiration
I wanted a prize for the end of my hike up Mount Fitzroy! I had hoped for better photography with an early morning start and I was not disappointing. When I arrived at the lake I immediately saw how the mountain's reflection looked like a sleeping god staring at me over the water...Editing
Not a lot. I have opted for a more natural look in this image, but have boosted some of the vignette around the bottom of the image. In my camera bag
As a travel photographer, I travel very light. I carry an Olympus E-M1, a 12-40mm f2.8 PRO lens, a 75mm f1.8 Prime, and a Manfrotto tripod. All up the kit weighs less than 3 kg, and can fit into a small backpack. This lightweight gear makes hiking easier and street photography less conspicuous.Feedback
The best advice I can give to peer photographers who are looking to capture something similar is to find an interesting location then plan the best time to be there. Planning around location and timing should increase the number of opportunities to take great shots.
