That's one of the nicest shots I've seen of a coneflower. I love the way you've managed the light and the focus.

Location
I took this photo in my backyard garden.Time
Around 8:45 a.m.Lighting
I used natural sunlight.Equipment
Nikon D300, with a 28-105mm Nikkor lens in Macro mode, at a 320th of a second, aperture at f9, focal length 55mm, on manual with no flash.Inspiration
I had a profusion of echinacea, or purple coneflowers, the summer I took this picture. They are too bright and beautiful not to try to capture with a camera.Editing
I did a small amount of adjust to the levels and converted the mostly black background to all black for a more dramatic look.In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon D300, and these days, I am using a Tamron 17-50 wide angle lens, as well as a Nikon 28-300mm lens. I will carry the 28-105mm that I used for this picture if I am going to do some macro shooting.Feedback
Because the slightest puff of air is enough to make flowers move, I recommend a fast shutter speed. I shot this image on a sunny day, but you can also get some nice shots when the sky is mildly overcast - be sure to check your camera settings!
