Location
It was my first time visiting Jamaica, and we rented a villa beside Discovery Bay. There were gardens everywhere with flowers blooming that I'd never seen before, but this simple white Amazon lily caught my eye.Time
On this trip we made a habit of going swimming early, so this would have been in the middle of the day, probably late morning. I know dawn and dusk are the "magic hours," but in this case the sun being further overhead helped illuminate the flower from above.Lighting
This was in a small courtyard, usually shaded but the sun was bright in this one patch. I loved how the backlighting brought out the fine details in the flower petals, even reflecting off the wispy spiderweb at the edge.Equipment
I used an Olympus OM-D 5 mk 1 with the 60mm macro M.Zuiko lens. I took the shot handheld, with natural lighting.Inspiration
Purely the curiosity of exploring a new place with an unfamiliar camera (belonging to a family member). This was my first time using Olympus or a dedicated macro lens, and it opened up a whole new world of details I had never noticed before.Editing
Only minimally, to lighten the exposure. In my camera bag
The Olympus 60 mm macro is an amazing lens, tiny and light but such great, sharp detail. It's not just for macro though, it's a great prime lens all around. I also love my Fuji X-Pro2 with 18-135mm. Both are small enough for my petite hands, light enough to carry around on a long hike, and are fun to use in any situation. And very importantly, they are both weather-sealed!Feedback
Pay attention to the details around you, like how the light changes or where shadows fall. And take the time for a few different perspectives. Things can change completely with just another angle. Most of all, keep exploring what matters most to you!
