Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the Kinzua Bridge Skywalk, part of the Kinzua Bridge State Park that has reinvented the Kinzua Viaduct that was partially destroyed by a tornado in 2003. The bridge is located near Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania, USA.

Time

The photo was shot around 1:00 in the afternoon at the end of August.

Lighting

Given the time of day, the lighting was not ideal for wide angle landscape shots. I decided to pull out the macro lens and focus on the details of the engineering marvel and did the best I could between cloud cover and full sun.

Equipment

The equipment I used for the image was a handheld Canon Digital Rebel XTi with an older Canon 100-300mm macro lens.

Inspiration

The history of the Kinzua Viaduct and its impressive engineering and construction was what inspired me to focus on the details that sunny afternoon and study everything it took to achieve such a structure.

Editing

The post-processing of this image was very minimal, and only included some exposure, brightness and contrast tweaks in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

I typically carry a Canon Digital Rebel XTi and an analog Rebel Ti camera body, the 28-90mm kit lens that came with the Ti, an older 100-300mm macro lens that I purchased used on Ebay, a Canon tripod and a number of lens filters. Yes, it is about time I upgrade my equipment.

Feedback

The image was a product of adapting to the environmental conditions and focusing on the details rather than only looking at the whole. I would suggest to anyone that adaptation and attention to detail is important for any shot.
