Great perspective. Almost feel a little dizzy, and I think my neck is hurting! LOL....Congratulations on winning People's Choice!

Behind The Lens

Location

Captured in downtown Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada these are the tallest buildings in the city.

Time

I took this shot just before 7am when the light was more horizontal and there were plenty of reflection on the glass.

Lighting

Waiting for the right time of day and weather is important for this type of shot. These two towers are quite close to each other once the sun is high in the sky it is difficult to get a nice range of highlights on the buildings. Catching the sun low in the sky was key here.

Equipment

Nikon D800 with a Nikkor 14-24mm lens. No other equipment used, shot hand held.

Inspiration

For a small city, these buildings really stand out. I have always admired the light and reflection from glass facades on towers and these two are quite impressive, especially as they are quite close together. I love the symmetry you can get shooting them from various angles.

Editing

Very little post in this photo. Black and white conversion in Photoshop, some sharpening and some curves adjustments.

In my camera bag

When I am walking around a city I keep it very simply. Usually a small camera bag with the essentials (batteries and cleaning kit), perhaps a second lens. Often the two lenses I take with me for these types of walks are a wide angle and a zoom giving a good range with minimal lenses. If I am out at night I may also take a fast prime (e.g. 35mm f1.4). For these towers I wanted something ultra wide, this was shot at 14mm.

Feedback

Try to look at buildings in different lighting conditions (cloudless and cloudy, time of day). For a clean image, its nice to find just the right frame to give the least distractions (no poles, signs, people etc). I choose to have no cloud in my shot, and I had to capture on a morning which was not too busy with people to get exactly where I wanted to be.
