Location
Captured in the Good Spirit Provincial Park in Saskatchewan, Canada.Time
If you follow my landscape work you will see I am a fan of the morning twilight time. I got up quite early on this day and this was toward the end of my shooting. Captured just before 6am.Lighting
I just love how light looks in the twilight moments. Throw in some water and beautiful textures and the results can be amazing. Here the rising sun is partially obscured by a distant layer of cloud which really give a nice diffuse orange.Equipment
Hand held capture on a Nikon D800 with a Nikkor 24-70mm lens.Inspiration
I love the light along the wooden canoe. I had wished it was me taking it out along the lake at this time of day, but I would have to settle for a photograph instead. All the same, someone's journey laid ahead.Editing
Sharpening, tonal adjustments, curves. I do most post work in Photoshop. In my camera bag
A was camping at the time, and did not have a lot of equipment on me. In fact I had only my camera and the one lens attached on this particular morning so I had to find what I could to suit. Luckily the 24-70mm f/2.8 offers a great range of capabilities and in fairly low light. I did have spare camera batteries though - if I don't have my bag I always tuck a spare battery or two into my coat pocket.Feedback
Get up early! Try to beat the daily activity of people and experience what the twilight has to offer. Besides the peace and beauty of this time of day, there are often fantastic photo opportunities. Lakes are a great place to take advantage of this type of light, just look for an interesting subject for your foreground.
