Shadows seem to be nearly everywhere. I found this apple pie crust cutter and decided it would be interesting and artistic to capture ONLY the shadow and not the thing that casts the shadow.
As I learn more about shadows I find my attention on the shadows increasing, and I'm now finding I can create beautiful compositions full of contrast, form, and minimalist simplicity with them. (An object and its shadow will strengthen each other.) For this photo I decided to not capture the pie crust cutter, and play with capturing only the interesting shadows that was cast by it. It was a hot morning light streaming into the room and the shadow was cast against a light tan slump block wall. It took several tries to get the right exposure; if I was to do this again I would use bracketing to get three different exposures with one click. The push-pin was added to make the shadow not seem to be a shadow and the paint overlay added more eye appeal to a plain grey shadow.

If your idea was to take a picture of a shadow and make it not look like a shadow, you succeeded 100%! Very interesting.

Exactly this sure does not look like a shadow, the end composition is a play on Immanuel Kants "The Thing In Itself"
