Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Old Saybrook, Connecticut at the beach after a weekend of storms. I love to travel around to different places in CT looking for beautiful sights to capture.

Time

After the long weekend of storms a few friends and I decided to head over to the beach to watch the sunset. Little did I know that the reflection of the beautiful clouds and sun would reflect perfectly on the watery puddles on the sand. I tried many different angles to get the perfect shot and finally got this one! This was taken June 9, 2013 at about 7:00pm

Lighting

The reason I took this photo was because of the lighting in the sky. The light shone very beautifully through the clouds and created a perfect reflection on the water which made the lighting look even better. The person who is in the background of this photo was also not supposed to be in it but after I saw how the lighting made him like as if he was a shadow walking on water I decided to keep him in it.

Equipment

This picture was actually taken on my phone surprisingly. Usually I try and have my camera with me but unfortunately didn't have it on me at the time of the photo so I had to use the resources that I had on me.

Inspiration

I love photography and capturing pictures of nature. When I got to the beach and saw the natural beauty that the storm made on the beach I knew I had to take pictures.

Editing

Usually I try and stay away from too much editing but for this picture I did enhance the lighting in the sky just a little bit to make the sunset appear to be a little more vivid.

In my camera bag

Most of the photos that I take are spontaneous pictures that I take on my phone because my camera is a film camera and doesn't help me take spur of the moment photos. I should probably save up money to get a digital camera!!

Feedback

You can never take to many pictures! It took me a while to get the right angle and lighting for this picture but I ended up coming out with one of my favorite pictures that I have ever taken. Also when I took this photo and the man was in the background, instead of waiting for him to move (he was not supposed to be in the picture) I decided to capture a couple of photos with him in it. I really liked what his shadow added to the picture and thought he added a little bit of mystery, so I recommend trying different things even if it is not what you intended to capture because you never know what you will come out with.
