I took this photo in downtown Providence, RI, between intermittent rain storms. This is actually a crop of a larger perspective but loved the subtlety of this pose and decided to run with this instead.Time
This was taken probably around noon on a rainy overcast day; I was caught unprepared in the rain, but decided to use it as a quick opportunity to grab pictures with water elements... so I dashed from tree-to-tree taking photos.Lighting
This lightning is natural, and probably wouldn't have come out this way if it weren't for overcast sky, which provided an even tone.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D5300 with a nikkor 55mm-200mm.Inspiration
I wanted to capture a picture of the city while it was raining, specifically the puddles on the ground. It always gives me this kind of tingly ephemeral sense of never ending twilight, beset by the purr of rain falling from the sky. This pigeon, unbeknownst to him, represents that moment in time.Editing
I used straightforward post-processing for this; crop, exposure adjustment, tone-mapping, and a curve-adjustment. The intent was to create a contrast between the patterns on the bird feather and the pattern of the stonework under the reflection of itself. In my camera bag
I usually carry my Nikon D5300, my 55-200mm, a spare battery, and an extra SD card. I try to pack as light as possible! :)Feedback
I think the key to capturing a photo which encapsulates a fleeting moment, such as post-rain storm, is made of three things: 1. Being prepared (Know when its going to rain, and when the sun is out.) 2. Getting The Shot No Matter What (Even if you or your camera gets wet) and 3. Being aware of your surroundings. (No amount of planning will tell you when the moment is right; you have to be aware and ready to jump at any moment to capture the right photo, such as this random pigeon.) I hope this was helpful! :)
