Location
This image was taken at the Portland Oregon Japanese Gardens in Fall. When the leaves change to their autumn colors the gardens are insanely popular. There are lines of photographers lining up to take a picture of a different maple. I struck out to find my own less photographed maple to make famous. I kept getting low until I found the one that spoke to me.Time
It was a typical misty NW fall day, but I seem to recall it was late afternoon.Lighting
I can't claim any credit for lighting on this one. The guy upstairs took care of that for me with this image. That and an amazing prime lens.Equipment
The image was shot with a Canon 6D, Canon 85mm 1.2, Manfrotto Carbon tripod, & A Suri Ball head.Inspiration
I have been inspired by all of the other images of the more famous maple on the grounds of the garden. So I wanted to see things from a different trees perspective. That and I don't like waiting in a line of photags to lay on the ground. It seems like a horrible amusement park ride to me.Editing
The image was edited in Lightroom 5. I did minor adjustments in post. The basics exposures, contrast, a bit of shadows, Nothing major was done. I like to shoot clean and edit clean. I am not one to chase the latest filters, or preset trends. If it's clean and timeless I believe it will be relevant over time. If it is over edited it's like a time stamp. Not saying I haven't ever or won't edit some images more artistically. I just prefer the clean and timeless shooting and editing as my personal go to preference. In my camera bag
What don't I have in my bag. Ok if I am grabbing my small go bag. I usually have my Canon 85mm 1.2, & my 70-200mm 2.8 is usm paired with my Canon 5D mk iii.Feedback
Timing and patientnce is everything with fall foliage. Weather plays a huge roll in the lighting and can change quickly. I once waited three years to finally capture a stand of three trees in the fog. I just kept driving by them on foggy days until one day I saw what I had in my mind. So being persistent in your photography helps a great deal as well.
