Location
The photo was taken on the roof of an under-construction academic block in our university during my undergraduate studies.Time
This photo was taken during the golden hour in the morning. Those days, I just started experimenting with photography and I used to take my camera out and roam around the campus from 3 AM to 8 AM scouting for interesting photos and let the imagination run wild.Lighting
Golden sunlight reflecting on water (used for reinforcing concrete roof) was a sight I couldn't look away from. But reflection captures with least height allowed by tripod didn't meet the frame I had in my head. So, I took the camera off the tripod and carefully held it just above the water surface to capture perfect reflection (at least what I considered a perfect reflection at the time).Equipment
This was shot with Canon EOS 1100D, with an aperture at f/10 and 1/100 sec shutter speed using an 18mm lens.Inspiration
I just started experimenting with photography then, roaming around the campus from midnight to early morning looking for interesting shots and taking my time with the scenery when the whole world is asleep. One of those days, on the roof of an under-construction building I saw golden sunlight reflecting off thing layer of water used to reinforce the concrete roof. By holding the camera just above the surface of the water, I was able to capture the reflection in the camera but something is missing, the frame looked dull. Lighting was good, reflection was incredible but something is missing. In one of the photos, I observed a small ripple on the surface due to wind and I knew what's missing. By moving my leg I created some ripples and Bingo! I captured what I considered at that time 'one of my perfect photos'. When I went back to my room, my roommate just woke up and I told him "Bro, I am gonna show you a photo and you are gonna say 'WOW'" and I showed him this pic and he said 'WOW'.Editing
I just colour corrected the image to get the golden sunlight and bumped up the contrast to make the reflections glisten. In my camera bag
The usual suspects, a prime lens, wide-angle lens, polarising filter, shutter release and obviously a tripod.Feedback
From my little experience in photography, I found that to capture interesting photos. First, you need to enjoy your surroundings and just listen to your heart and it automatically turns your camera to something interesting.
