This photo was taken in a studio as part of an advance portrait course with Truro CollegeTime
Taken in the evening, but as it was a studio without windows the time of day didn't matterLighting
Two flash head were used for this, each positioned at right angles to the side of the head, facing each other, so that if just one was used on their own it would produce a split image. Over the front of one soft box a blue gel was placed..Equipment
Nikon D7000, nikkor 50mm prime @ f6.3 1/250, two flash head, two 80cm sq soft boxes, blue gelInspiration
I'm a huge fan of Game of Thrones, both the books and HBO TV series. To advertise ther TV series, HBO produced a series of posters and I set of to see if I could recreate it in camera.Editing
Photoshop elements 12 has been used for post-processing to increase the whiteness of the eyes and sharpening to emphasise the facial lines and stubbleIn my camera bag
Always in my bag is my Nikon D7000, second in is a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 and a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8. After those a nikkor 50mm f1.8 and then it depends if I am expecting to use flash or not for the day. If I am then there is a Nikon Speedlite SB-700. A cable release, Hoya 77mm thread filters, polarising and UV and an SRB Photographic ND1000 big stopper and a spare battery are always in the front pocket. Often I take a Manfrotto 190 Tripod out with me too.Feedback
Study what you are trying to recreate and then think about how it was achieved. Try to do as much as possible in camera.
