Location
At Cambois Camera Club clubhouse on one of our Tuesday night model nightsTime
Taken about 9 o'clock during a group photo session. Chris the model is actually a photographer himself he just came long that night to do a spot of modelling for us.Lighting
Subject was lit using a single studio light and to get high contrast with Chris's rugged features and beard.Equipment
One studio light in camera clubs studio. I used my Sony A6000 with the stock 16-50mm lens and that was it.Inspiration
Chris was a great model throwing himself into the part. The guitar in the shot is actually a flying V which I airbrushed a few years earlier. I took it along to the shoot for a bit of a rock theme. As shooting started Chris began getting right into the part throwing all his best rockstar poses. For this shot I moved right into his face, think I was about a foot or two away from him when he roared at me for this shot.Editing
Post processing was mainly just converting the image to black and white. I did up the contrast and sharpness a bit to enhance the beard and skull tuning heads. For sharpening on the beard I used high pass sharpening technique which tends to work great with this sort of image. The only other processing I did was to lighten up the eye so you could see his manic stare from behind the sunglassesIn my camera bag
I only have one camera, a Sony A6000 but I do have 2 different equipment bags for it. A small bag that I take out on my bicycle trips shooting landscapes which pretty much just holds, the A6000 camera, it's stock lens, and ND or polarizing filter and either my 55-210 lens or my wide angle/fisheye. My larger camera (still fairly small) bag holds all my gear which is Sony A6000, 16-50 stock lens, 55-210 lens, 28 lens, ultra wide converter, fisheye converter, ND filters, polariser, batteries, remote shutter release.Feedback
I think what made this pic work so well for me was how well I was getting on with the model. We chatted beforehand, becoming friendly before any shooting began. Once we began shooting I felt completely at ease with him and he had no inhibitions about just enjoying himself and being daft. I think the fact that we were having fun is what made this picture work so well. I was pretty much ;laughing with him as he was pulling off his best rock poses and just moved in as close as I could get with the camera, probably within a couple foot from his face and he just roared at me :) So for me a relaxed model just having fun and enjoying themselves is what made this pic possible.
