Location
In our kitchen. We had a large tank with 3 of the Waxy Monkey Frogs living in a little community. Unusually for frogs this species loves to sunbath and would often sit on its branch baking under it's heat lamp.Time
I'm not too sure, although it will have been during the day as it was basking under it's heat lampLighting
The lighting is actually just the lights from the frogs habitat tank. There was a daylight bulb and a spot heatlamp. No special lighting setups for this one. I did use a tripod for this photo as the lighting was so low I needed a slow shutter speed. Fortunately the frog doesn't move much.Equipment
This was actually shot with a Fuji HS10 bridge camera. It was my first serious digital camera, for all it's limitations it was capable of some great photos.Inspiration
I just love the way these little frogs look. They look like little aliens and always seemed to have a look of superiority and smugness about them.Editing
There some processing to clean up the background a little, and some tweaks with the lighting and sharpness slightly as the frog was only lit by it's tank lights. In my camera bag
These days I use a Sony A6000. I have the kit lens 16-50, pancake 16mm lens with ultra wide and fisheye converters, 35mm prime and a 55-210 zoom. All the lenses are Sony E-mount lenses. I like this camera as it is amazingly compact and I can easily carry it around with me without having to lug huge kit bags everywhere.Feedback
I think with amphibians and reptiles for me its all about capturing an interesting pose. You can't ask them to pose like people so it's often just a waiting game. With this frog it was easy as he was in my house so if ever he was looking particularly photogenic I just had to whip out my camera.
