Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo whilst on a anniversary trip to Mexico, it's a shot that looks like I'm a diver but miraculously it's actually shot through the side glass of a huge tank

Time

I actually took this right in the middle of the day, my fiancée and I were visiting Xcaret for the day, which is an ecological park & there are lots of animals, but this was one shot that just stuck out when reviewing them once we got back home

Lighting

I liked the moody shade of the water & as he was actually quite high in the tank I love the way the light from above was making his scales sparkle

Equipment

This shot was taken using my Sony NEX-5, 18-55 lens & a steady hand :)

Inspiration

It was one of my first real trips out with my camera where I wanted to get as many different shots I could, being self taught I wanted to go through the settings seeing what I and the camera could do!!

Editing

As I was pretty new to my camera I hadn't worked up any confidence in myself so hadn't brought any processing programs - as I've taken more & found a style I like I'm proud to say I now have a copy of photoshop elements. So this photo is completely as it was right out of the camera

In my camera bag

I carry my Sony NEX-5 , twin lens kit comprising of 16mm lens & 18-55mm lens, I have since brought another lens of 55-210mm telephoto lens & numerous filters. I have my UV filter on all the time to help protect the lenses from dust etc.

Feedback

The tip I'd say to people trying to get an under water view is to find a place where they have large open tanks & ensure its a sunny day to get the cracking light bouncing off the scales & fins, take your time & get the lens right up against the side glass to get rid of any glare!!
