Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the Lumberjack candle bridge in Rovaniemi, Finland, sometimes also referred to as the "new bridge". It was on my first exploring walk in Rovaniemi during my exchange semester at university of Lapland, here. The second day of a 4 months life changing experience.

Time

This picture was taken during sunrise (early January). But I didn't have to get up early to experience this sunset, time had just passed 11 o'clock. That's the beauty here in Rovaniemi. Because it's just on the polar circle, very high up north (across the wall for the game of thrones fans and otherwise the official (touristic) home of Santa Claus) so the sun does some strange things here. It only shows itself for 2 hours or less in winter and in summer it's there 24 hours 7 days long per week.

Lighting

It's all natural light. There was some fog and the sun just rising made this magical kind of lightning in the scenery.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5D (mark I) that I bought second handed an a Canon 70-200 f2.8L Borrowed from a friend. Nothing else.

Inspiration

This is one of the many pictures I have taken here in Rovaniemi. You encounter so much magical moments here. Winter is so different from summer so each day you will encounter other magical moments. day in, day out.

Editing

For post processing I did some basic straightening and dust cleaning. Above that I did some color enhancements but not to much. I kept it as close as possible to how it looked like in real life.

In my camera bag

In my bag (F-stop satori EXP) I have the Canon 5D (mark I) and the old Canon 1000D (my first camera also second handed). I have 3 to 4 lenses in it, these are the kittens that came with the 1000D, the pancake 40mm f2.8, the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 and then temporarily the Canon 70-200 mm f2.8L. As flashes I have the Canon speed light 270EX (II)

Feedback

I would definitely recommend going to Rovaniemi or more general Lapland. It is definitely worth it. The best would be if you could stay here for several months or just come here during winter and during summer to compare both seasons. Definitely worth it!
