This photo was taken at Jokulsarlon Beach in Iceland. The beach is part of the Vatnajokull National Park and lies at the base of the Vatnajokull Glacier.Time

Unfortunately the weather wasn't working for us, but it didn't seem to matter, the vibrant blues of the ice were amazing against the black sand beach. The slightest bit of light seemed to ignite the colors in the ice.Equipment
For this day I was using a Nikon D810 with a Nikon 20mm 1.8 lens. The camera was on a tripod which needed to be reseated in the sand every couple of waves. This shot also has a .9 ND Grad filter in use. The idea was to use a remote for the long exposure, but the waves and more importantly the "sleeper" waves made this more of an action shoot than I had expected. I was constantly grabbing my camera and tripod trying to avoid the sleeper waves that came in much higher than any of the other waves. At least one person on the beach lost their camera and gear to one of these sleeper waves.Inspiration
I've always loved landscape images that make you feel like you need to visit the place in the photo. I've seen so many amazing images over the last couple of years that were taken in Iceland that I decided I needed to go see the place for myself. I've decided that one trip to Iceland just isn't enough... I will be back, hopefully many more times.Editing
I used minimal post processing to correct some white balance issues and cropping.In my camera bag
I normally carry around my Nikon D810, Nikon 20mm 1.8, Sigma 35mm 1.4, and a Nikon 105mm VR. I also carry an assortment of filters including the big stopper and several ND grads. I feel that the tripod is important, both in sturdiness and weight, I'm carrying a Manfrotto 190 Carbon Tripod currently.Feedback
I would suggest wearing warm clothes that keep you dry! Patience is extremely important as well, just as you are getting your shot composed a wave will come in and sweep your subject away, dislodge your tripod and splash water on your filter! Carry lot's of towels and wipes for the lenses and filters. This was a exercise in both patience and speed to get set back up, recomposed and the shot taken.
