Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken inside Burj Al Arab, Dubai, during our family vacation, in 2015. This was my first click on my first entry level DSLR. I had never used RAW in lifetime, so it was clicked in JPEG. There was very little scope for post processing. I'm a self taught photographer. so every click is a learning for me.

Time

We had gone to Burj Al Arab for brunch. It was a morning, around 11- 11.30 am. I saw up at the ceiling, from the lobby, I saw this beautiful colorful geometrical shapes of angles, circles, lines etc. If you watch it carefully, you can see that these are the balconies of the room.

Lighting

There was a opec wall of the off-white curtain on the right side and the morning sun was exactly behind the curtain, illuminating this area with just enough of light. (if you see Burj Al Arab from outside, this curtain looks like a mast of the ship)

Equipment

As I said this was my first entry level DSLR Nikon 5200 with 18-55 lens. I also used polarized filter on the lens. No flash, tripod was used.

Inspiration

When first time I saw beautiful colorful geometrical shapes of angles, circles, lines etc with pastel shade colours in the background and also with some golden colour curves, it was giving some royal look to the entire area. Anyone would have loved this combination of colour and shapes.

Editing

As I said, it was clicked in JEPEG and not in RAW, there was very little scope in post processing. Also the light coming from right-side was just perfect, so that there was no need to do any extra work in PP. Still I did some PP for contrast, colour, opening of shadows to get a balanced look

In my camera bag

Now a days I use mirrorless Camera. Choice of lenses depends on what type of shooting I will be doing. Like for landscape or milky ways, star trails- wide angle lens, macro lens for macro photography, Telephoto lens for butterflies or other wild life. I usually keep polarizer on the lens. I also carry one all purpose zoom lens- 24-240 mm, for convenience. Tripod- for slow shutter photography. Very rarely I use flash. Apart from this I carry extra batteries, memory cards, lens cleaning brush, blower, micro fiber cloth

Feedback

When you reach the place, first check the light condition. Avoid using flash as far as possible.
