Behind The Lens

Location

I took this wonderful iconic structure in Paris, France.

Time

I was walking around admiring the sights in Paris and just loved the view I got of the tower from the fountains. So I set up my tripod and waited for the magical moment when the lights on the tower lit up. This photo was taken on the 4th March at 6pm 2015.

Lighting

The original picture was edited in Lightroom and photoshop to create the lighting effect I gave it to create more drama and lines to draw your eyes into it. The fountains wasn't on at the time so I blacked them at the bottom of this picture to stop distractions.

Equipment

The camera I use is a Nikon D7100 with my 10-20mm Sigma lens. The settings were set at 160 ISO, 20mm focal length, f11 at 15 seconds. I took many photos with this lens and this was my absolute favourite. I also used a ND filter but cannot remember what one.

Inspiration

My inspiration came from a guy called Serge Ramelli who you all probably know is a photographer based in Paris. I not only his photography but his tutorials on photoshop and Lightroom. I have watched many of his videos and hopefully one day I will meet him and learn something from him. His love of photography and generous online help is amazing and I am thankful for it.

Editing

Post prosseccing was all done in Photoshop but mainly on Lightroom 5. I find these 2 programs compliment each other and work very well producing excellent results. Although I will say these programs are not easy to pick up over night.

In my camera bag

The equipment I always carry with me is: Nikon D7100 body 18-105mm VR Nikkor lens 3.5-5.5 10-20mm Sigma wide angle lens 4-5.6 55-300mm Nikkor Lens. 4.5-5.6 60mm Nikkor prime lens 1.8 2 flash guns Coloured gels Tripod

Feedback

My advice to my one trying to capture this magnificent structure is to be patient and wait for the right time. I onto went over to Paris for one day but wished I stayed longer as this city is amazing. I will be planning to go back in the near future. Make sure you use a tripod to capture the most detail without blurring and take many of the same picture at different settings. If need be then you can create and stack your photos in Photoshop to create the most stunning picture ever.
