Behind The Lens

Location

I took the photo was taken in San Francisco near Slacker's Ridge. It was my first time in this amazing city and it won't be my last.

Time

This was my first time in San Francisco and I just knew that I wanted to get up early and shoot some photos of the fog rolling into the city. I left the hotel around 7 a.m. arrived in the area where I wanted to shoot around 8 a.m. It was late October and absolutely beautiful weather. I couldn't put my camera down. I shot for about four hours and I took this photo at 10:24 a.m.

Lighting

I couldn't believe how beautiful this scene was and I wanted to capture it from every angle. The sun and fog just help to set the perfect situation. The sun was low enough to put those nice Golden Gate shadows on the fog, while also silhouetting the bridge and the city.

Equipment

At the time I was still young with my photography gear. It was shot with a Canon T3 and factory 18-55mm lens.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo because of all the other great photographers who have shot this city. I always wanted to go to this city because of the amazing photos that I had seen of it. When I finally had a chance to go I knew that I wanted try and capture some of my own images of San Fran. I was fortunate to have a great scene unfold in front of me.

Editing

I did a minor shadow and highlight work in Adobe Lightroom. No cropping was needed.

In my camera bag

Then, I had just my T3 and a tripod.

Feedback

Learn to always look for images wherever you go. Good composition and content trumps everything. Good gear is important, but not as important as a photographer's eye. I think training your eye to see the world as well composed images is the most important thing a photographer can learn.
