Behind The Lens

Location

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens in Miami.

Time

Around 3pm.

Lighting

I only used God given all natural lighting.

Equipment

Canon 5D Mark II. Can't really remember which lens I used, but it was probably a zoom lens. Maybe 24-70, but don't quote me on that.

Inspiration

I was at the gardens shooting all different kinds of flowers. Lotus flowers, are definitely my favorite.

Editing

I'm a Photoshop guy, always have been. I like to do all the post work myself, so I never used presets, or ready made filters. I like to work from scratch. I believe each pictures kind of tells you what it wants to look like in terms of coloring and post work. It's like a story that slowly unfolds. I originally shot this in color, which turned out great, but the b&W one was even stronger.

In my camera bag

I'll usually have two to three lenses. A 50mm 1.4 for low light, and a 24-70 for almost everything else. If I'm shooting something like animals or models on a beach, I'll use a 70-200. If I'm shooting landscape, I'll carry around a wide angle lens.

Feedback

My best advice would be to shoot, shoot, shoot. Explore, experiment, try different things. Use different lighting, shoot the same thing from 56 different angles. Also, do your research. There is so much information out there now. Take advantage of it.
