This photo was taken during a quick trip to Loch Lomond, I had never visited before as the opportunity had never arisen. I am a Scottish lass who no longer lives in Scotland so I take every opportunity I get to photograph the beautiful landscapes whenever I visit. I decided to take a drive to Balmaha and stopped off at Milarrochy Bay, Loch Lomond where I met another photographer who had the same idea as me, it's obviously a well photographed spot.Time
This has got to be one of my favourite shots, I had always wanted to visit Loch Lomond and get some scenic images, but little did I know that I would fall in love with the place to the extent that I did; WOW what a place! This shot was taken at approx 12 noon and there were a few other visitors taking in the scenery and enjoying this tranquil and beautiful Loch. I only wished I had more time to spend there.Lighting
This image is a 3 shot HDR image to capture as much of the dramatic sky as possible. I took this photograph at approx 12 noon, the sky was very textured and I knew that if I captured it as a long exposure I would get the most out of the sky. The way the image has been processed almost makes the viewer feel that it was taken during sunset. I merged one 30 sec exposure shot along with two 1 sec exposure HDR shots to achieve this shot.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7000 camera, my Manfrotto tripod, I used my Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens, I also used a wireless shutter release remote control and B&W ND 10 stop filter.Inspiration
I am Scottish and in the past I had taken my own country for granted, but now that I no longer live there I love to capture as much of it's beauty as I possibly can. I had seen shots of Loch Lomond on Photography sites in the past and had always wanted to visit.Editing
I used Photoshop elements 12 and also Photomatix (for HDR) and a good pair of glasses!!In my camera bag
In my bag I usually carry my Nikon 50mm prime lens, Sigma 10-20mm lens, Sigma 70-200mm lens. ALWAYS carry my Manfrotto tripod - My bag is empty without it! I occasionally carry my Sigma 105mm Macro lens. Always carry my wireless remote controller and ND filters too.Feedback
For this shot I could see that the clouds were very textured and moving visibly so I decided it was going to work best as a long exposure HDR shot. The advice I would give to anyone trying to achieve a shot like this is to find a still loch/lake with mirror reflections and a textured sky - an ND filter (10 stop) will capture movement in the clouds and process the image as you see fit.
