This photo was taken on a beautiful summer night in 2006 at Red Willow State Recreation area in southwest Nebraska. It was a very special time of peace and tranquility out at the lake spending some quality time with my son.Time
The weather was calm and warm. The fish were biting. We had spent the whole evening enjoying the wonder of mother nature. As the sun was going down, the clouds slowly started to filter in with beautiful colors of the Nebraska sunset. This photo was taken shortly after 9 pm. With in minutes, it was totally dark.Lighting
Mother Nature gave us a wonderful display that evening. I didn't need any special filters or adjustments to make the picture beautiful.Equipment
Believe it or not, I took this picture with my cell phone camera. I have had this picture as a wallpaper on each and every phone and computer I have owned ever since. It may be the best picture I have ever taken.Inspiration
Being a Nebraska native, I have enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets. In my opinion, there are very few things on earth more gorgeous than the wide open spaces with the full array of colors in the sky as the sun rises and goes down. This was one of my first sunset pictures. Actually it started my love and enjoyment of photography.Editing
God provided all of the beauty. There really was no need to touch up or adjust the photo. In my camera bag
I was able to purchase a new Cannon camera just before Christmas of 2014 and I have taken almost 1000 pictures since then. I started by going back to my first love taking sunset pictures. Since then, I have changed my focus to taking wildlife pictures of the deer, turkey, ducks, geese and any other wild animal I get the opportunity to point my camera at. Lately, the only equipment that I take with me on a photo shooting trip is my camera, tripod, some camoflauge and whatever wildlife calls that I need to bring them into a good camera range.Feedback
If I had any advice for anyone, it would be to slow down and take your time while you are in the field. There are beautiful things all around you every moment of every day no matter where you are on this earth. Try to change the scope of the area you are looking at. One example that I can think of is that a small flower can fill a photo with just as much beauty as a full landscape/sunset containing miles of open space. It is all how you look at and your vision of what is beautiful. Most of all, take pictures of what you love. That is what makes the whole effort of photography worth while.
