Location
I am a self taught photographer, with no formal training. I do love taking photos though, and will avail myself of any opportunity. With these Rainbow Lorikeets frequently seen in our area, it's really a matter of watching and waiting for potential shots to present themselves for the camera.Time
Taken in the morning on an overcast day.Lighting
Natural lighting on an overcast day can lend itself to photos without strong contrasts to deal with.Equipment
Olympus OM-D EM-5, 12-50mm lens, hand held, natural lighting.Inspiration
Who couldn't help being inspired by these lovely birds. They are cheeky personalities and very inquisitive, it's a pleasure to photograph them. It helps that they are not easily intimidated by a photographers presence for the most part.Editing
No post processing. In my camera bag
Olympus OM-d EM-5 body, 12-50mm lens, 40-150mm lens, 75-200mm lens. Plenty of batteries, a couple of memory cards (particularly if doing a trip). I will often carry a tripod, but rarely use it.Feedback
Patience, get to know where they are happy sitting as they often fly back & forth within an area, and often land on the same branches for another look about. They enjoy each other's company and you will have opportunities for many fun shots with these entertaining birds if you are reasonably quiet and make the most of the time they are about. They will not be there all day so make no assumptions you can just watch and wait for a 'perfect' photo. They usually have other places to go, but be assured they will likely return to the same area daily or every few days if it's an area they like. This Lorikeet, with others in the group, visit our area on a daily basis. often early morning then sometimes again afternoon.
