Having my youngest daughter in competition dance for years, this brings back many memories for me...and a few tears. How sad to see pointe and ballet shoes hanging from the barre like that, just abandoned. This is an amazing photograph. Thank you for sharing it. It took me down my own personal memory lane.

Behind The Lens

Location
This photograph was taken inside an abandoned ballet academy in Fort Worth, Texas.
Time
In the mid to late afternoon.
Lighting
100% natural lighting.
Equipment
Shot with a Pentax K20D and a Pentax SMC-DA 10-17mm. No flash, hand held.
Inspiration
When I walked into this room I shot it exactly as I found it. Seeing the painting of the ballet dancer leaned up against the wall and the pair of ballet slippers hanging from that railing...it was like the photography gods were smiling on me that day.
Editing
Yes, I processed the RAW image in Lightroom and then did some minor tweaking to the final image in CS6.
In my camera bag
Yes - processed the RAW image in Lightroom and then some minor tweaking in CS6.
Feedback
As a photographer who is moderately obsessed with abandoned locations I believe the purest way to represent the scene in which you are photographing is to leave it exactly as it was when you first entered that space. Sometimes moving something here or there definitely helps but as a purist I prefer to leave everything just as it is.
