This photo was taken at sunrise on my parents second floor veranda on Rainbow Mountain in Madison, AL.Time
This was early morning in January, maybe 7:00 or 7:30 AM. I had my tripod and remote trigger and different lenses out and ready to go. i got several good shots in this session but this is the only one on ViewLighting
Well this was the light i was looking for, peak of the golden hour. It is predictable since I lived there at the time. There are all these huge pine and evergreen trees across the way in the distance and they do a beautiful job blocking some of the sun while allowing light to still shine through. It makes a very beautiful light.Equipment
Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Lens: EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM Tripod: Yes. Manfrotto MKBFRC4-BH Befree Carbon Fiber Tripod with Ball Head Remote Trigger: Yes.Inspiration
I loved my dog Thom. He was such a beautiful black lab and he lived to the ripe age of 13. I had been wanting portraits of him like this, so I woke one morning and did it. The sky and light was perfect. I had done this before, but it was earlier and darker and I didn't care for them as much.Editing
Some sharpening, coloring, lens corrections, and luminance reduction in Photoshop RAW Editor and some adjustment in Photoshop CC.In my camera bag
I have filled one of these out so many times this question's answer always makes me feel like I am repeating myself lol. I just copy and pasted this from another one of my BTLs: Depends on what I am setting out to shoot. But I usually always carry my Canon 5D Mark III around my neck and will keep a Canon Rebel T6i in my bag. I almost always have my Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM, and ALWAYS my Canon EF50mm f/1.4 USM, and either my Canon EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM or a Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM. If I am going to take pictures of flowers or insects I bring a EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. I occasionally shoot with a Canon EF35mm f/2 IS USM. On rare occasions I will bring a Canon EF20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM if I need to go beyond 24mm.Feedback
Wake your butt up and get ready. It is not a very long window to get that right light. I had like 15 minutes maybe of this particular lighting. So.....don't dally around....
