It is uncommon to see swells this big hit the west coast of North America. But with bigger waves in the forecast, a tight nit group of us decided to venture off to a secret spot. This 30 foot faced wave was more than we bargained for. Here big wave surfer Rusty Long manned up and paddled into this mountain of wave. I have to mention he was only on a 7"2" surfboard which is 2" shorter than he should be using for this size surf. Yes he paddled into this. No jetski tow in. It time any money to get here, but what a pay off. Swimming with my water housing to get this is on of my top ten shoots. This will be etched in my mind for ever.

Fantastic image! You could say he brought a knife to a gun fight, pun intended. Surely should have been on a paddle-in gun. Hard to say who had more cajones, the surfer or the photographer!
