I took this shot at the Granby Ranch Golf Course in Granby, CO. I was just getting back into photography and was bringing my camera with me everywhere I went. You never know when a opportunity will present itself!Time
I took this shot just before noon. The sun was high but i was fortunate enough to get good cloud cover. I had been snapping a few photos all morning, but the high sun and cloud cover offered the best lighting options for this photo.Lighting
I could not have asked for better lighting that day. I was hoping for clouds the night before, both for better lighting and for more dramatic landscapes.Equipment
This was taken with my very old Canon ae-1 with 50mm lens. I was getting back into photography and wanted to refresh all my knowledge about the basics of photography: fstop, shutter speed, etc. I only had two rolls of film on me, so 50 pictures was all I could take for the day. No tripod, no flash just the camera. I did prop it up on the top of the golf cart to keep it steady as i adjusted settings and took the picture.Inspiration
As I only had 2 rolls of film, so I was very picky about the pictures I was taking. We came up on this hill and I wasn't really paying attention at first. I then sat back and started looking toward the horizon and noticed how pretty the golf course looked that day. The different colors and the contrast of the blue mountains, green grass, red barn, and brown sage was really striking. I pulled out my camera, adjusted settings, and propped it up on the cart to keep the camera steady and snapped one picture. I knew that I had captured the moment, but had to wait a week to see how it translated onto film. I wasn't disappointed!Editing
Technology is amazing these days. There are so many great things you can do in a photo editing program. My local photography shop is able to develop my film and upload them to an online account. I am then able to pull the digital copy and make any adjustments. I try not to process the picture too much, but my goal is to capture on film what I am seeing in person. I brightened up the colors, especially the green in the grass and the blue in the mountains. I really wanted the contrast to pop. Saturation was the only editing I did to the photo. In my camera bag
Unfortunately my Canon broke about 15 months after I took this shot, so i decided to invest in the Sony a6000. I don't like being bogged down with a lot of heavy equipment and the Sony mirrorrless cameras are very light and versatile. I do have a small fanny pack style camera bag that's easy to pull my camera out of on the go. I always have an extra battery (with car charger just in case), SD cards and waterproof SD card holder, small camera cleaning kit, remote control for camera, extra lens cover, a couple of lens filters (which I don't use too often), and a water bottle!Feedback
You never know when a great moment will present itself. Always be on the lookout, and think outside the box. Do research and draw inspiration from other photographers. What amazes me is the more I stay in that creative mindset, the more opportunities I see everyday of an amazing photo. Experimenting at home with a simple set up will give you the skill and practice you need to take your photography out into the world. Google and Youtube are great teachers for specific photography skills. I also rely heavily on the experts at my local photography shop. They'll talk to me for hours and answer any questions I have. They also host different classes once a month. Seek instruction and always continue to hone in on your skill.
