Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was captured on a lovely spring day in Melbourne at the Royal Melbourne Zoo.

Time

After spending hours wandering around, waiting for the perfect moment, it was early afternoon when I went to visit the Lemurs, and then this happened as I sat and watched.

Lighting

The lighting is all natural, from the sun, with it just of off center of the sky. the day was actually a little overcast but it didn't impact on the suns strength.

Equipment

I used my camera of choice, a Nikon D7100 with a my newest addition, a 150 - 600mm Tamron. No flash was required due to the fantastic light already available and Tripod was unnecessary.

Inspiration

I had been sitting down on the path, watching all of the Lemurs with sleep or eat...but this one. He was focused on watching the new comers to the exhibit (which is open, and you can get really up close with these beautiful guys). His face changed and I just lifted and snapped the photo. His curiosity inspired me...what was going through his head at the time...perhaps 'Oh no, not more people.'

Editing

Very little post-processing was required. All post-processing was done on Light room, and for the most part, just a little sharpening was done as well as the white balance was fixed up a little to ensure the photo displayed colors correctly.

In my camera bag

My bag has lots of goodies in it. I guess it really depends on what I am going to shoot. Most of the time my bag contains My D7100, a CPL Filter, at least an 18-55mm and at minimum 70-300mm lens. I enjoy doing focused photo days where my equipment reflects what I will be photographing.

Feedback

The best advise I can give is to be patient...some time is doesn't pay off, but when it does, you will be able to capture some of the most stunning shots ever! And never be disheartened when it doesn't pay off, because sometimes it just wasn't the right time or place, but there will be that right time when you will have the ability to capture something even better!
