Location
This photo was taken in the Butterfly House in the Melbourne Zoological Gardens in Parkville, Victoria, Australia.Time
This photo was taken in an enclosed area with artificial lighting, however I can tell you it was taken in the early afternoon on a warm summers day.Lighting
Even with the bright artificial lighting in the Butterfly House, I still required the assistance of my built in flash. The shadows cast by the leaves were hard to overcome initially but moving around and testing different angles assisted with getting the right lighting.Equipment
This photo was taken using my Nikon D7100, coupled with one for my favorite lenses...my Tamron 180mm Macro Lens.Inspiration
The small world, enlarged by the Macro style photography is what really inspired me. I kept dreaming and wishing to go to the Butterfly House and really play with my Macro lens and photograph something more than Spiders with it. Seeing all the different native Butterfly's brought more inspiration to my mind and allowed me to really explored one aspect of photography I really enjoy.Editing
Only recently have a gotten into any Post-processing. This photo was processed in Lightroom 5.7 (One of my favorite photo editing applications.) This photo was cropped, removing some of the leafs which were detracting from the image. I also used Lens Correction, straightening out the edges and corners, as well as a bit of curves correction, lightning the highlights and softening out the harsh shadows which were present. In my camera bag
The equipment I normally have in my bag changes from photo shoot to photo shoot. My essentials also change according to where I am going. What remains in my bag 90% of the time is my Nikon D7100, A CPL Filter and a ND2 Filter. I prefer my 35mm 1.8G Nikkor in most situations for its speed and ability to capture low light. I also have my older Giottos Professional Video Tripod in my car at all times.Feedback
There is so much advice that one could give you, so much you can research on this particular form of photography, but my piece of advice, which extends across all forms if just to keep trying. Try different angles, try different lighting options...and never ever give up. just keep trying.
