Behind The Lens

Location

Jackson, Wyoming...USA

Time

I had always wanted to see the Tetons and Yellowstone National Park in the winter. We awoke early in the morning in order to travel to Yellowstone through the Tetons. With sleep still in our eyes, we approached this indescribable national park. As the sun rose and cast its brush of light upon the the beauty of Mt. Moran and a distant view of the Tetons, I was struck by how the sun's palette of beams illuminated the scene with pink tones enhancing the snow drifted fields with glinting touches. A distant cloud settled before the stark beauty of the mountains like a final touch of Mother Nature's talented brush. There is no artist who can approach her talent.

Lighting

The early morning light was a once in a lifetime experience and one that will stay with me as long as I live. As sunbeams lit up the scene before us, I was struck by nature's perfection and our role in it.

Equipment

I was using my first digital camera...Kodak DX6490, F 3.2, 1/125

Inspiration

The light and beauty of the scene was an attraction that no dedicated photographer would have resisted.

Editing

Some enhancement of color with some attention to highlights and shadows in order to bring out the scene's beauty.

In my camera bag

I normally have my latest camera, a mirrorless Sony NEX 7 with a Tamron 18-200mm lens and a monopod for stability.

Feedback

America's national parks and so many of our state parks hold a treasure trove of scenes for capturing by the dedicated landscape photographer. There are always scenes of local opportunity reminding me that sometimes, we need to make ourselves aware of our local surroundings, as well.
